Disabling the in-game overlay (GeForce Experience)

  • If you want to disable the GeForce Experience overlay that is displayed in games, there are several ways to do this. The easiest option is to simply disable this overlay function in the program settings. In this case, GeForce Experience will continue to work, update drivers and optimize games, but will no longer display the in-game overlay.

To do this, you need to run the GeForce Experience program itself. To do this, you can use the search in the Start menu. Open the Start menu, enter the name of the program and run it.

GeForce Experience in the Start menu

  • The first time you start the GeForce Experience program, you will need to log in using the login and password from your NVIDIA account. If there is no such account, you can register or log in using a Google or Facebook account.
  • After logging in, the main page of the GeForce Experience program will appear, a list of games that have been detected on your computer will be displayed here. To go to the settings, click on the gear button in the upper right corner of the program.

GeForce Experience Settings

  • After going to the settings, you need to scroll down the page and find the "In-game overlay" section. There will be a switch with which you can enable and disable the GeForce Experience overlay.
  • To disable the overlay, simply turn the switch to the "Disabled" position. Changes to the settings are applied instantly. There is no need to restart the computer.
  • In-game overlay section
  • Also, instead of completely disabling the overlay, you can simply change the keyboard shortcut (by default, Alt-Z). To do this, click on the "Settings" button and go to the "Keyboard Shortcuts" section.

Other ways to disable the overlay
If the above method of disabling the GeForce Experience overlay did not suit you, then there are several more options that you can use.

Disabling the service
To disable the NVIDIA service, press Win-R and run the "services.msc" command. After the "Services" window appears, you need to find the "NVIDIA Display Container LS" program, open its properties and change its startup type to "Disabled". The disadvantage of this method is that along with the GeForce Experience, the NVIDIA driver settings will also stop working.

Disabling the service
Complete removal of the program
